THE popular Heart of Ulverston Awards have been revamped as they make a long-awaited return after a six-year absence - and they want you to nominate your local heroes worthy of special recognition.
To mark the first awards ceremony since 2018, organisers have restructured the award categories to ensure as many individuals and organisations receive praise for their amazing contribution to the local area.
Organisers 32West has brought together businesses and organisations to bring back the Heart of Ulverston Awards on Thursday, May 16 at the town’s Coronation Hall. UlverstonBID and Cumbria Teaching Agency are headline sponsors, while local businesses and suppliers are also supporting the event.
The steering committee have been thrilled with the early volume of nominations coming through to the website, and is urging people to nominate their local heroes at www.heartofulverston.co.uk/nominate.
Nominations are accepted on behalf of people living and/or working in Ulverston and its surrounding villages.
Details of the 13 award categories are as follows:
The Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Ulverston Town Council. This award is presented to an individual who has shown exceptional levels of commitment and support to Ulverston over a sustained period of time.
Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Cumbria Teaching Agency. This award will go to an amazing teacher who has the ability to inspire people of any age, make learning fun and motivate pupils to try their best at all times.
Outstanding Courage, sponsored by Chattaway Inns. Inspirational people who have battled the odds and displayed extraordinary bravery in the face of adversary will be recognised through this award.
Sports Performance of the Year, sponsored by 32West. The nominees in this category will be able to demonstrate an endless amount of commitment, energy and drive to reach the top of their chosen sport.
Employee of the Year, sponsored by Bender UK. Members of staff who are role models and integral to their business’ operations will be celebrated in this category, with the winner judged as going above and beyond to achieve business success.
Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by Siemens Energy. This award will be received by a talented and determined apprentice who shows an undeterred desire to succeed and be the best they can be during their ongoing learning journey.
Best Hospitality Venue, sponsored by Bluebell & Ivy. You’re spoilt for choice for amazing hospitality venues large and small in Ulverston and this award will be presented to the very best in the locality.
Business of the Year, sponsored by Rachael Bell Wealth Management. There are endless amounts of amazing businesses in Ulverston across all sectors, and one which can demonstrate impressive growth, innovation, vision or investment will be the recipient of this award.
Business in the Community, sponsored by UlverstonBID. This award will be presented to a business which makes a positive difference in the local community, whether through volunteering, financial donations or lending a helping hand.
Helping Hand Award. This award will go to an individual who has a true heart of gold and devotes their time to helping others, either professionally or voluntarily.
Citizen of the Year, sponsored by Westmorland and Furness Council. We want to hear the amazing stories of stalwarts of the community who dedicate their time, energy and effort into making Ulverston such a great place to live and work.
Community Group of the Year, sponsored by JF Hornby. Charities or community groups, large and small, which make a huge difference to the lives of local people will make the shortlist for this award.
Sports Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by LOCALiQ. The unsung heroes who turn up in whatever weather every week to keep grassroots sports alive and thriving will be celebrated in this category.
